Easier installment and and 'black box' edition of motors

When it comes to drive equipment, performance is more important than appearance. Still, the white oxidation occurring on aluminum in humid environments was something the team at Viale Drive Systems wanted to address, leading to the launch of a new protective coating. It is one of two recently presented novelties at the company, with the second focusing on easing the work for installers. "The new limit switch box design is a useful technical improvement for the installation teams," says Pascual Sanz, export manager at Viale Drive Systems.

Black Edition
At GreenTech 2026, he presented the so called 'Black Edition' as what future PRP gear motors will be available, equipping the aluminum housing and external components with a black protective coating, intended to prevent white oxidation following humid conditions, such as inside greenhouses. "The white oxidation that occurs on aluminum in humid environments does not affect the gear motor's performance, but we wanted to address it," says Pascual. "The treatment is designed for greenhouse and livestock environments: resistant to ambient humidity and the presence of chemicals. It requires no maintenance, and comes at no additional cost."

Installation work
The second update presented concerns the limit switch housing, making it easier for installers to carry out the work of regulating and connecting limit switches. Pascual shows how the external housing and the internal layout have been redesigned, separating the mechanical components from the electrical connections into two independent compartments. "This required a complete redevelopment of both the inner casing and the cover, but serves multiple puproses: making installation easier, and, during operation of the gearmotors, also avoids interference between the mechanical parts and the electrical cables."

The redesign was realized in collaboration with installers and customers. "For us, it has always been very important to gather feedback from installers and customers, as it is the only way to improve our products and adapt them to the real needs of users. Constructive criticism is invaluable because it helps us improve our products," says Pascual. "When we design a product, it may seem complete during development, but improvements often become apparent during its application in greenhouses." He refers to the words of Viale technical director Massimo Digitali. "The best product is the one we will manufacture tomorrow, because we will have 24 more hours of experience than we do today."

Renewable energy driven
It's the close contact with the market that also encouraged Viale to develop drive systems for their gear motors using renewable energy, a need expressed by customers in areas without access to electricity. "But over the years, with the advancements in technology, we have found these systems to be reliable and suitable for use anywhere in the world, regardless of electricity availability."

The company currently offers a system called SDF (Solar Drive Fusion), which allows them to drive three-phase gearmotors of any power rating using photovoltaic panels. "A novel feature, as most solar-powered systems use single-phase motors", Pascual shows. " This system offers the option of using direct energy from the solar panels during daylight hours, or alternatively, using batteries that allow us to operate the gearmotors at any time of day, whether it's sunny or cloudy."
